All the medicine is gone out of those glasses!

When I was a little girl, I loved playing in my grandmother Mattie B. & great-aunt Vicy’s vanity and closet. They had the best items for a little girl who loved to play dress up. One day while playing in Mattie B.’s closet, I placed my glasses on her dresser. My grandmother picked them up and said, “You’ve worn all the medicine out of these glasses.” In disbelief, I looked at the lenses that were covered in my many fingerprints and a few scratches and she was right! It was a wonder I could see anything!

After Mattie B.’s proclamation, I can remember asking my doctor how much medicine he would have to put into my new lenses. With much laughter, he explained how lenses don’t have medicine at all, but simply is the curvature of the lenses that help us see. He then explained, the best he could to 9-year-old me, how to read my prescription. It is very important to understand your prescription, especially when ordering glasses online. This photo is the best depiction I could find to help you understand what the codes mean on the prescription.

Now that you have read the description of what the codes mean on your prescription, let’s go back to why I said its important when buying online glasses.

You will have to enter the prescription into the website. In addition to the basic prescription, it is a requirement to know your PD (Pupil Distance). My former optometrist refused to measure it for me (as it is uncommon to list on the actual prescription). He stated that he didn’t like for his patients to order glasses online because he wanted the patients to purchase frames from him. The nerve of him! I changed doctors after that - honestly, because we moved to another state LOL.

Most online stores have a ruler and instructions on how to measure your PD at home. It is actually very easy. You can print the ruler from their website and follow the instructions, then boom, you have your PD. When I first measured at home, I had my husband help me. He did a really good job because when I verified my PD with my new doctor, it was perfect!

Another benefit of online eyewear shopping is that you can upload a picture of yourself onto the website and try on frames! This is probably my favorite feature on the sites I frequent. I upload a selfie, without wearing glasses of course, and click on the frames I want to try on. It helps when choosing different shapes and colors. If not satisfied once you receive the frames, you can easily return for exchange or refund.

There you have it! Online shopping is very easy, convenient, and fun. Happy Shopping!

This Week’s Eyewear:

“Carola” in Tortoisehell - www.wherelight.com - $12.95 before prescription | “GYLT” (Get Your Life Together) Tee - www.theteachertopshop.com

I said last week that statement frames are synonymous with heels, but when they join forces - it forces you to Get Your Life Together (GYLT)! For this look, I paired my GYLT tee with high-waist trousers from Target and two-tones high heels from H. by Halston. I tamed Justine this week to feature my favorite go-to: a headwrap. Wraps are not only perfect because of the cultural inspiration and history, but it is a go-to for a quick change up. The top knot with single side twist partnered perfectly with my favorite large hoop earrings. This outfit is ready for a day in the office or a night out.

All About Carola:

That 9-5: Yes’ Ma’am Pam! They are an office favorite.

Girl’s Day Out: Absolutely! I might buy these in pink for some fun sunglasses.

BAE Night: Come on! Did you not see the photo above? LOL

Loungin’: Yep - they’re pretty sturdy.

Overall, I give these glasses a 5 out of 5. I knew when I tried these on during my virtual fitting they would be in high rotation. The tortoiseshell frame allows the frames to transition to any season, but I truly love them for the Fall/Winter seasons. They’re pretty cool in any color.
