What would Randy Watson do?
This issue is all about CONFIDENCE: Building It - Restoring It - Encouraging It - Exuding It - Living It!
I know: Randy Watson is a fictional character, but I couldn’t think of a better example of confidence to put this week’s blog into perspective. If you’ve never seen the movie Coming to America, let me briefly explain this scene. As the band lead of Sexual Chocolate, Randy convinced the band that they could proudly stand on stage, in powder blue tuxes and ruffles, jheri curl juice in tow, and perform. Even when the performance was over with very little response from the audience, Randy stood with the most confidence! You go Randy! I’m often told that I must have a lot of confidence with comments like “you know you can pull those off” or “those are so you” regarding my eye wear. I take comments like those as a boost of confidence.
We all know the textbook definition of confidence, but how do we apply it to our daily lives? Before we can define our own confidence, we must first truly understand the many layers needed in our mental, physical, and spiritual lives to effectively live in and display it. I conversed with Dion Duff, Certified Life Coach and Owner of Temperance, LLC, located in Birmingham, Alabama. In order to be the most confident version of yourself, or necessory if you will, you must possess the “IT Factor”. I asked Dion to expand on the “IT Factor” and this is what she had to offer.
Building IT:
Building confidence requires taking a step back, accepting the mistakes that you made in the past, forgiving yourself, and detaching from the feeling you did something wrong.
Restoring IT:
In order to restore confidence, you have to be vulnerable and put yourself out there. Do something new. Don’t look for encouragement outside of the mirror. Take it one day at a time. One hour at a time. You have to be gentle with yourself when you’re trying to step back into a mindset of trusting who you are. Have faith and trust where you are going. It’s not an overnight process. Be gentle.
Encouraging IT:
This is important. In order to encourage confidence within yourself and within others, one has to understand that it will not happen overnight. Allow yourself to not be so hard. Always stay mentally and emotionally open to change. Whatever it is, it is not the end of the world. As crazy as it sounds, you must talk to yourself because it you look to other people to encourage you and it doesn’t naturally from within, you allow space for other people’s opinions to break you down and make you feel less than. Trust yourself!
Exuding IT:
Do whatever makes you happy as long as it doesn’t hurt anyone else. Exuding confidence comes from trusting yourself and making decisions for what is best for you. That includes hair style/color, fashion, and eyewear of the day. Even food choices. You have to believe in the decisions you make and that transpires into exuding confidence because when you trust yourself, other people can see it.
Live IT:
Block out the negative noise because it is not the same as constructive criticism. Confidence is built over time and through heart lessons with family members, work colleagues, church members, etc. Set boundaries and do things that make you happy. Confidence will come naturally and after a while nobody can knock you.
THIS WEEKS EYEWEAR:
Your Eyewear Exudes Confidence!
This week’s glasses were purchased from Zeelool (www.zeelool.com). They’re called “Notes”, and before my prescription lenses, cost $15! What is it to not love about these frames? The turquoise uni-brow can stand alone, but met with the tortoiseshell bottom, these cat-eye frames (my favorite shape by the way) are definitely conversation starters.
I found this cute top in Target. The artist is Bijou Karmon, licensed by Artestar. The specks-n-coils wearing naturalista pictured is wearing the same turquoise & tortoise design as the frames I’m wearing. I paired the top with a pair of high-waist jeans from Old Navy, large hoop earrings (my fav), and navy double-buckled Birkenstocks. I know you see Harriett and my daily jewelry pieces. Justine behaved that day too!
All About Notes:
That 9-5: Of course! A perfect icebreaker for those impromptu meetings!
Girl’s Day Out: Yes Ma’am Pam! I have too much fun in these frames. Perfect for plant nursery visits or a day out shopping.
BAE Night: YEP! Perfect for a day out, dinner and a movie, scooters in the park, or an outdoor concert.
Loungin’: Not so much. The arms are a little fragile.
Overall, I give these glasses a 5 out of 5. They have a very comfortable fit and can be worn anywhere! The confidence has to be on 1,000 to wear these! We’ve talked about it and I know you’re ready!
Until next week and everyday on Instagram @_necessory_
