Ain’t this ‘bout a blimp!
Sugar Honey Iced Tea!
No, I didn’t stump my toe, but the next most painful thing has happened: I’ve broken my glasses!
Picture it: the year is 2001. It’s the end of one of my high school basketball games (no ma’am Pam I didn’t play - focus LOL). I’m walking down the bleachers and the person behind me misses a step. Before I can gracefully prohibit my body from hitting the ground, the bump forces my glasses into orbit and all I hear is a crunch. Yes, someone stepped on my glasses!
I didn’t hear the My Bad Keirston because I was staring at my now arm-less frame. Thank goodness it was only the arm, right? Wrong. How could I possibly drive home with one-arm frames? Let me just say it was a lot of praying and squinting on my fifteen-minute drive home. You know the type of drive where you turn off the radio and a/c to focus. I’m talking some real deal 10 & 2 going on. I didn’t dare tell my parents I had broken my glasses, but I had to tell someone. I went to the only person that wouldn’t give me a lecture: my grandma Mattie B.
She was the epitome of patience, virtue, & ingenuity. Between her and my granddaddy Henry, I knew they could solve anything (yes, even at 18, my grandma was my SHEro)! Without hesitation, my Mattie B. super glued that arm on. It was a little crooked, but my parents never noticed, and those glasses bought me another six months before the next pair!
I know what you’re thinking, why did you just super glue them yourself? Long story short, the aftermath of super gluing my hands together at 5 years old wouldn’t allow me to touch superglue again until the mature age of 30 - no typo. If you know my parents, ask one of them to tell you the story for a good laugh!
What happens if I break my glasses now - I repair them myself or I pick up another pair. In this issue, we’ll discuss the importance of having a handy-dandy eyewear repair kit!
I always keep an extra pair of glasses with me.
Yet, there have been times when a quick adjustment is needed. Pictured below is a photo of the repair kit that I have at home.
It comes with a screwdriver keychain, tweezers, assorted screws, bolts, and nose pads. Although this kit is relatively large, a more compact version can be purchased at Dollar Tree, Walmart, Target, or your local drug store. The convenience of having a kit like this helps with those eyewear emergencies (and for your wristwatch also). It also helps when your eyewear needs a quick adjustment. On cleaning days, I always check for loose screws and to see if nose pads need to be replaced. Its a real necessory! To prolong longevity, preventative maintenance is a must!
THIS WEEK’S EYEWEAR:
You know the phrase “Give a girl the right pair of heels…”? The correct phrase for me is “Give her the right cat-eye frame and she can change the world!”
Although these cuties are no longer available, how fancy is this bar connecting the eyes! Even Justin had to bow down to these frames - LOL! Don’t tell her I said that!
All About Janae:
That 9-5: They are definitely a conversation starter.
Girl’s Day Out: Not my go-to frame because of the limited outfit choices.
BAE Night: I’ve never worn these out on date night, as I don’t think I’ve ever worn this color combination on a date that I didn’t have another frame in mind.
Loungin’: YES!
Overall, I give these glasses 3 out of 5. I feel limited with the outfit choices with these because they stand out on their own. The fit of the actual frame is very comfortable, even being an over-sized frame. The $2.95 prices definitely add a star for the overall rating. I actually wished the tortoise shell frame picture above was available.
On the necessory Instagram page, I posted a deep cleaning video featuring the kit aforementioned. Special thanks to my cousin for recommending these wipes that I now use as a pre-clean on cleaning days.
An eyewear kit is true necessory regardless if you wear prescription frames or not. Imaging being out and you break your sunglasses? You’ll think back on this blog like Dang, I should’ve bought that kit. Do it! To quote my daddy, “It is better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.” Protect your eyewear!
Until next week and daily on Instagram @_necessory_
