Relax - Relate - Release!
When was the last time you took a break?
Like seriously! When? I know the requirements of our daily lives can make us skip over the most important component of our life - YOU!
Many of us have a significant other, children, demanding work duties, and bills, but what about you? When was the last time you actually just stopped to take care of yourself?
In the current state we are living in, self-care often gets put on the back burner on simmer. You know you must do it, but you often tell yourself “Let me take care of this real quick!”
I’m guilty of it! So much so, that I’m actually writing this on my own Mental Health Day! (Yes, even on my self-care day I’m thinking of you!) I needed to mentally decompress for a minute. The past few weeks have been very heavy and draining mentally and physically. I had to be in multiple places at the same time causing daily duties to become hectic. I recognized the signs and decided today would be the day to unplug (at least until the family returns home from school and work).
I took some time this morning to catch a quick morning nap after school drop off. I tackled some dreaded laundry and loved on my plants. Just me, my candles, and my 90’s R&B playlist. I went onto the patio with my laptop and cup of tea in hand and suddenly closed the laptop. After working 40+ hours a week on a computer, I asked myself “When was the last time you gave your eyes a real break?”
I try to work out a few times per week and eat healthy, but I realized I never loved on my eyes outside of routine doctor’s visits and cute frames. This week let’s talk eye care!
Your Eyes Need a Break Too!
If you’re constantly staring at a screen like me, eyes can become tired, dry, and itchy. Staring at your cellphone or smart device can cause eye strain as well. As
I’ve stated in a previous issue, blue light lenses & frames can help dramatically, but have you tried helping your eyes relax outside of sleeping?
Pictured here are a few eye movements that can help relieve tired, stressed eyes. I find myself doing these exercises a few times per day. I noticed my eyes don’t get as tired as before. Try it a few times a day for yourself and let me know how you feel!
This Week’s Eyewear:
There’s nothing more classic than a pair of black frames. They go with EVERYTHING! Dress them up on dress them down. You can never go wrong! I absolutely adore these frames from www.wherelight.com. Of course they are my fav cat-eye shape, but the little cut outs on the front and gold accents just sent these fly frames over the top.
All About Davin:
That 9-5: Upon receipt, I made the mistake of opening these bad boys up at work and I instantly switched frames. Poor Sally’s! They were really cute with the outfit that day too. LOL - so yeah, these are perfect for work!
Girl’s Day Out: Most Definitely!
BAE Night: My husband actually likes these even though he’s still a hater when it comes to my other frames. Yes, these would be perfect for BAE NIGHT!
Loungin’: Yep. These can be worn just kicking it around the house too!
Overall, I give these glasses a 5 out of 5. The fit is amazing, and the frame is classic! These are definitely in rotation!
If you haven’t taken a moment to breath and decompress - pencil that in. Be it thirty minutes, a day, or a weekend: get it done! You’re not any good to anyone if you don’t take care yourself first.
Think of it this way, the first thing the flight attendant tells you on a plane, in case of emergency landing, put on your mask and life vest first before assisting others. You have to help yourself first to help others! As my grandmother use to say, “You’re no good to anyone if you’re no good to yourself!”
I definitely don’t regret taking a moment today to share this with you. I feel like someone reading this may need it just like I did. I feel rested, refreshed, and ready to take on the demands of life. Make sure you try those eye stretches too! Are you ready to take a mental health (eye) break too?
Until next week and daily on Instagram @_necessory_
